OlympIQ Talentschule

OlymIQ Talent School

The OlympIQ Talent School is the ideal place for young people with sporting and musical ambitions, who are specifically promoted in the school area according to their special needs as part of individual lessons. The OlympIQ Talent School also offers special options for highly talented young people. With a regular timetable, it is open to all students.

Thanks to the possibility of teaching in small groups at the appropriate level, the education is also well worth it.

The educational guidelines of the OlympIQ Talent School Basel are based on humanistic principles. OlympIQ Talent School Basel provides practical, goal-oriented, contemporary, demanding and situation-appropriate training. It takes into account the individual talents and educational biographies of the students and enables them to pursue their special talents, inclinations and abilities to the greatest possible extent.

The OlympIQ Talent School Basel attaches particular importance to the social skills of the individual students. The tension between the individual performance area and everyday school life is immense. Tolerance, openness and understanding of the strengths as well as weaknesses of classmates is therefore an important prerequisite for learning success and further development. Discrimination of any kind is an absolute taboo at the OlympIQ Talent School Basel. The promotion of personal responsibility is fundamental for all students to achieve their goals.

The following points should be particularly emphasized:

  • Compared to the regular timetable, the pupils (like the sports classes) have one less german and one less math lesson per week during each school year.
  • For highly gifted students, the lesson table is comparable to the regular lesson table, as there are 4 obligatory weekly lessons “Workshop for gifted students”.
  • The subject ethics, religions, community, class lesson and professional orientation lead to the subject class lesson (social learning and work technology). The focus is on the accompanied development of the respective personality in the social and developmental psychological sense. This must be taken into account especially for the phase of adolescence, in which many life questions can arise for the young people. These topics are also addressed in the coaching program, which supports the students individually. In addition, especially for competitive athletes, it is essential to pursue the work technique in a targeted manner, as there is usually a lot of catching up to do here.
  • All pupils take two courses from the compulsory elective area (see timetable); at least one belongs to the “Music, Art and Design” department.
  • In performance train P and E, the pupils (10th and 11th school year) are obliged to choose either MINT or LINGUA with Latin or Italian as one of the compulsory elective subjects. MINT and LINGUA are open to students of all three levels of ability.
  • In contrast to the “Sports Class” lesson table, the “Exercise and Sport” subject is identical for all three school years (9th to 11th school year). These are two hours per week that are mandatory for everyone. The students of the competitive sports promotion are exempt from this.
  • The compulsory topics and tasks are adapted to the special needs of the students. In the 11th school year, the professional orientation takes place, which is prepared as part of the coaching program, which has been mandatory since the 9th school year. This ensures the clarification of a further teaching or study career (see Chapter 11: Coaching Program). The OlympIQ Talent School Basel school management is particularly aware of the great responsibility that comes with professional orientation. That is why OlympIQ Talent School Basel attaches great importance to the dual concept (school and sport / music / ballet, etc.) and sees its task in the meaningful development of a connection option after the end of compulsory schooling.
  • Project work and project lessons are set at the end of the 10th school year and in the 11th school year after consultation with the learning coach. These projects, defined with the involvement of the talent managers, reflect, among other things. the student’s talent area in the areas of sport, music, ballet, etc. The students can benefit from the support of specialists. This means there is no need for an often laborious search or coordination between the specialist and the teacher. Since the project work thematically focuses on the student’s talent areas, a high level of output is expected.
