Gymnasium St. Antonius
Welcome to the Gymnasium St. Antonius
For more than 90 years, the Capuchin Province of Switzerland ran a higher educational institution in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden and, since 1976, the public secondary school. On August 1, 1999, the canton took full responsibility for the lower secondary school and the secondary school.
At our school, pupils can obtain the federal Matura in six years so that they can be admitted to any degree in Switzerland. As a small grammar school, we look after girls and boys individually and promote them according to their skills. For motivated and highly gifted young people, the LHF concept (promotion of motivated and highly talented pupils) is available, which enables specific support.
The name of the grammar school implies an obligation: the ideals of a humanistic grammar school that is aware of its roots as a former Capuchin school are decisive. From an ethical point of view, values are represented that are based on a Christian image of man. The atmosphere at the grammar school is characterized by mutual respect, moral commitment and an open culture of discussion.
The grammar school is run as an all-day school. The school is open to all Innerrhoden students, for students from other cantons in accordance with the contractual provisions. According to the admission procedure, all students have the appropriate educational and talent-related requirements. A network of host parents is available for students from outside the canton.
The main goal of high school education is to attain an intellectual and personal university entrance qualification. The grammar school imparts specialist and structural knowledge as the basis for further training. By imparting structural knowledge, the grammar school enables students to think and work across disciplines and thereby gain insights into complex relationships.
Accordingly, the teacher and educator community of the grammar school regards it as their essential task to provide young people with a comprehensive and holistic education, to offer them help in shaping and developing their personalities in crucial years of life and to make independent, critical judgments according to their age and enable action.
Respect is the basis of coexistence and all values of the high school. Respect demands respect and appreciation, it shows in the conversation, in the effort to reach consensus, in dealing with dissent and criticism. Respect for the other needs self-respect, it manifests itself in the interest in the other and vice versa. Lack of respect arises from indifference and reticence.
